Yet somehow we tolerated losing 73 music teachers in five years, and and an 84% decline in spending for art and music supplies over six. School Music embraces the cultural richness of our City and empowers musicians, vocalists, and other artists to re-infuse music and art into our most underserved schools and school districts.
In 2014-2015, Thrive Collective piloted our School Music program at IS 117 in the Bronx, where our teaching artist resurrected the concert band, taught percussion, hip hop, and recorder to various 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes.
Dr. Terry Greene II holds doctoral and masters degrees in music from SUNY Stony Brook, and served as an adjunct professor of Jazz History from 2008-2013.
I teach music because I believe music empowers students to creatively express themselves.
