DeSoto high school is a campus full of students brimming with life, energy and enthusiasm. Though some of the empty walls on campus do not share this same level of vibrancy; Ms. Nava and her art students saw this as an opportunity, as a fresh canvas waiting to be beautifully transformed.
The mural ‘Ready to Soar’ is a celebration of the many creative disciplines offered at DeSoto high school. Not just showcasing art for art’s sake, but also showing how the drive to create is fundamental and necessary for a life worth living. The eagles within the mural are not passive, they are actively creating beauty and perusing a higher standard. A standard that requires imagination in order to plant the seeds of action.
One of these higher standards can be found in DeSoto’s very own school song, which goes like this…
DeSoto, DeSoto, you’re a grand ol’ school
Best we knowDeSoto, DeSoto, you taught the golden rule
We love you so
The Golden Rule teaches to love your neighborhood as yourself, which nowadays seems like a challenging task. But this is exactly what all of the mural volunteers were doing as they painted. They were pouring their best effort into the mural, so that when their fellow classmates would walk by and see the it, they too would be energized, inspired and reminded that there’s more beauty to be had in life, but we have to be the ones willing to participate in the creation of it.
These DeSoto students are ready to soar.
