We are proud to say that PS 89Q is home to multiple Thrive Collective murals. This summer project was initially intended to be a floor mural, but school staff later informed us that they would like a mural along the side of the school building, located on Hampton Street. The theme of the mural was to revolve around the school’s new name: “PS 89Q: The Jose Peralta School of Dreamers.”
Legendary artist Toofly designed this mural. She wanted to create a lettering design of the school name alongside “dreamy” or dream-themed graphics. Students helped paint this colorful and inspiring mural.
As with many things in life, maintenance is just as important as creation. This mural receives strong direct sunlight, and after one year, it was in need of fresh paint. After completing a captivating staircase mural at PS 89 in the spring of 2023, veteran Thrive artist Michela Muserra restored Toofly’s mural.
