PS 78 Makeover: If You Water It, It Will Grow

Thrive Collective artists painted a series of 15 murals at PS 78 in the Bronx based on the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. The seven habits are:

1. Be Proactive
2. Begin With the End in Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win-Win
5. Think First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen the Saw

This mural visualizes proactiveness through the process of nurturing a plant from seedling to tree. Being proactive means getting up every day and taking action towards your goals. If you want to have a tree, you have to plant the seed, water it, nurture it, tend to its soil, and give it sun. Throughout the mural are excerpts from the book:

I have a “can do” attitude and always try my best at everything I do.
I follow directions and do the right things without being asked, even when nobody is looking.
I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods and don’t blame others for my wrongdoing.
