BROOKLYN, N.Y. – “Girl Power” was on display during a recent Brooklyn Nets game as fans of all ages helped paint a pop-up mural at Barclays Center to celebrate the team’s annual Women’s Impact Night on March 16. The Nets and Thrive Collective, a New York City-based non-profit organization that creates hope and opportunity through arts and sports, collaborated together to create the colorful 6’x 8’ mural on the arena’s main concourse complete with Brooklyn-themed landmarks and icons.

Hundreds of fans made their mark on the canvas, including iconic New York hip-hop emcee Grandmaster Caz from the Cold Crush Brothers. The mural, painted under the direction of Thrive Collective teaching artist Michela Muserra, will be donated to My Sister’s Keeper, a foundation dedicated to equipping and empowering a diverse community of women in their educational pursuits and goals, acquisition of life skills, and personal and professional development.

“While the Nets battled the Sacramento Kings on the court, Thrive Collective artists celebrated the Queens of New York at Barclays Center,” said Jeremy Del Rio, founder and executive director of Thrive Collective. “It was an honor to partner with the Nets on Women’s Impact Night.”

The “Girl Power” mural is the latest collaboration between the Nets and Thrive Collective. In November, the Nets and House of Slay sponsored Thrive Collective’s “Be Your Own Superhero” mural at J.H.S 220 in Brooklyn. Nets Legend Albert King cut the ribbon along with school administrators and community leaders. The school-yard mural was announced during the Nets AAPI Heritage Night game on Nov. 28 at Barclays Center, where fans and Thrive teaching artists painted a replica of “Be Your Own Superhero” on the main concourse.
