Creating is Fun
In August 2015, School Murals went international!
For more than twenty years, our friends at Lily of the Valley orphanage have sent their children to a neighborhood public middle school, Escuela Secundaria No. 5. Directors Sara and Kevin Neff proposed a mural as an appropriate way to say, “Gracias.” That spring we collaborated with students from ten classes who interpreted visually the theme of Champions. They curated the concepts and sent photos of their best 150 drawings via social media. In August, we arrived with a design, twenty-seven volunteers from New York, ten from San Diego, and fifty or so students and staff from Lily of the Valley organized by Carlos Lazo, the extraordinary leader who grew up at the home and graduated from the school. Seven days later, the students and team celebrated Campeones.
