We had the chance to collaborate with artist and muralist Jason Naylor for this Summer mural with International Studies. Teaching Artist Will DeNatale worked with the staff and the students to come up with the message and imagery for the mural. After a few classes, he shared the ideas from the school to Jason, who interpreted and synthesized them in his own style. Located at the corner of the school and a busy street, we all agreed that the mural should be bold and prominent as a way to greet and brighten the community. We came up with the phrase “I AM THE FUTURE,” and we were pleased to see students and families taking photos in front of the wall even before it was finished.
