The Great Reveal
“Curious, compassionate, committed, and courageous,” is a motto that inspires the students at Marie Curie High School everyday. While Marie Curie High School specializes in preparing students for medical professions, we embedded within a dedicated art class. There was no shortage of committed artists which ranged from freshman to seniors. Principal Williams asked us to celebrate the school’s first 20 years.
In the first half of the program, senior students gave us writings and drawings reflecting their time spent at Marie Curie while freshmen provided drawings and written words of accomplishment and school pride. This collection of ideas lead to a final design of a long winding road flowing into the inner city, a graduating student body, young adults in medical uniforms alluding to the profession the students seek to obtain. On the doorway is the motto of Marie Curie with words of “welcome” written in different languages on top of a sun lit city skyline.
“Amazing.” “Beautiful.” “Great Job.” The students and staff commented at the unveiling of the mural during the ceremonial ribbon cutting. As the noise of applause quieted one student expressed how seeing her work and hearing the speeches given at the ribbon cutting was truly “Inspirational.” Hopefully this 12 week session with a class of 20 students will continue to inspire the students and staff for the next 20 years.
