“A Better Tomorrow” is a project based on the importance of students’ access to activities that inspire and motivate them to go after things they’re passionate about for their future. From a principal’s perspective, Ms. Jordan wanted to emphasize the importance of play and activities the students have at school. Whilst highlighting support and imagination, this was the theme for our wall. Located in the front of the school, this summer project was a collaboration between the school, P.S.018 John Peter Zenger, Thrive Collective and Bronx Connect. Students shared their school memories and mentioned all of the activities they had done through the school’s summer program to us. In class, Thrive artists Peach and Plushie did drawing activities with the students which got used in the design. Along with Bronx Connect, students, families and youth from the community worked together to bring this painting to life. The students and youth ranged between 10 years old and 23 years old. With a little over 60 people involved, we were able to finish this piece and create an opportunity for many in the community to connect over a fun creative project.
