Our longtime friends and collaborators from Loisaida Center and LES CommUNITY Concerns recommended three Thrive Collective affiliated artists for the inaugural murals at the corner of 12C Outdoor Gallery on 12th Street and Avenue C, curated by Galinsky. Completed in the spring of 2024, the collection honors the neighborhood’s deep cultural connection to Puerto Rico, including:
- The civil rights leadership of “El Maestro” Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos, by Danielle Mastrion.
- Loisaida’s impact on iconic artist Basquiat, by Savannah Zambrano.
- The culture’s resilience “Despues de la Lluvia” (After the Rain), by Michela Muserra.
Community volunteers collaborated with artists Savannah Zambrano and Michela Muserra. Loisaida’s Basquiat was originally designed by students during a mural workshop at Loisaida Center and produced as an event mural during the Loisaida Festival in 2023. That canvas is part of the center’s permanent collection. 12C requested us to reproduce it for public display. Similarly, Despues de la Lluvia was painted during the Loisaida Festival on May 29, 2024.
