Mural Shows Resiliency Of Brooklyn Schoolkids

Brooklyn school kids are showing off their community’s resiliency after Hurricane Sandy.

A new mural was unveiled at P.S. 329 in Coney Island this weekend.

Nearly 250 students helped to design it this spring by responding to the question, “How do you help a neighbor in need?”

Their answers were the inspiration for the mural that now stretches across the playground.

“Children, parents, community members have been working for the past six weeks to create the mural to show our strength,” said Salema Marbury of P.S. 329.

“This mural reflects the resilience and the energy and the willingness of the people on Coney Island to get back up off their feet, on their feet after being knocked down to the ground,” said Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of Brooklyn.

The school suffered nearly $1 million in storm-related damage and wasn’t fully operational again until February.
