“Mural: Master Class” students at Progress High School created the Legacy mural to celebrate the cultural heritage Puerto Rican immigrants brought with them to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, beginning in the 1940s. Installed at the entrance of the Borinquen Plaza Senior Center, the project was funded by City Council Member Erik Martin Dilan, with volunteers from local partners Cru New York, No Limits Church, and Borinquen Plaza Senior Center. 20/20’s resident artist Sam Wisneski taught the class as an accredited art elective with support from Progress HS art teachers Damon Wiggins and Daisy Schiff.
“20/20 Vision has done an amazing job not only with the Borinquen Plaza Senior Center mural but with what it’s brought out in our students. The students are proud of what they’ve accomplished but it’s also opened their hearts. Several students have told me they want to start volunteering at the center. The power of art. Thank you for everything! You guys are awesome and I look forward to future collaborations.” – Damon Wiggins, Progress HS Art Teacher
