This mural was inspired by the diverse Stapleton community. The principals, participants and Thrive Collective artists wanted the mural to reflect the student body as well as the surrounding neighborhood. Family and togetherness were a huge influence in our mural design.
Thrive Collective artists worked with the NeON Arts participants on different concepts for the mural. The bottom half represents the student body and the four seasons of the school year. We also included LGBTQ flags. We wanted our mural to be very diverse by showcasing different skin tones as well as different sexual orientations. In the top half, we showcased three different kinds of families (single father, a mother, a father and child, and a grandmother and grandchild.)
We also wanted to give a voice to the people in the community. We added positive messages to represent their school spirit as well as unity and togetherness. Positive statements like, “Black Lives Matter” were used because of the recent BLM protest against police brutality.
