On the morning of May 26th, 2022 over 100 Queens school students converged upon Roy Wilkins park for the 5th Annual NYC Council Art a Catalyst For Change Queens Culminating Event- The 2022 Heart Beat Festival. The excitement was palpable! The HBF is about healing and violence prevention through the creative arts. At the HBF students from participating schools are recognized and celebrated. Students participate in music, dance, theater, visual and digital art. The festival also includes field day games, food, music and performances. The HeART Beat Festival is produced by Thrive Collective in partnership with The Museum of The Moving Image and Black Spectrum Theater with the support of local organizations such as Young Life.

Art a Catalyst For Change is a city-wide program initiated by several NYC Council members and dozens of activists as a way to raise awareness and end gun violence, through art.

“Art has the power to change the lives of our young people.”
