Thrive Collective and URBANLIFE with Clorox

The Power of Clean

The power of clean can make a difference in peoples’ lives and communities. Join Thrive Collective and URBANLIFE Mentors, in partnership with the Clorox What Comes Next Project, to set the stage for endless possibilities at the new Youth and Family Center in Oakland. We are looking for volunteers to help clean and transform a distressed space into a new vibrant center for arts and mentoring programs that will serve local Oakland youth. Volunteers can sign up for two-hour time slots. Each shift will clear out and deep clean rooms, paint, build furniture and more.

A Family Affair

We encourage families to come experience the transformative power of clean together. Dedicated activities will engage volunteers of all ages. This is more than a clean-up event. It’s an opportunity to teach children about the importance of empathy, to make connections to your community and to unlock new possibilities for yourself and for others.

Please dress in layers and wear closed-toed shoes. Don’t forget to bring water and a snack, if desired.

About Thrive Collective

Thrive Collective creates hope and opportunity through arts and mentoring in and around public schools. Thrive’s core programs – Murals, Music, Media, and Mentors – connect artists and youth workers with local students and schools as teaching artists, art directors, and mentors. Project based learning integrate life and art skills, as students cultivate a shared vision and bring that vision to life collaboratively. Since 2014, more than 13,000 students and 2,500 volunteers have produced 115 school and community murals totaling more than 55,000 sq. ft. of public art in New York and California.

About URBANLIFE Youth & Family Center

URBANLIFE Mentors calls young people to a higher standard for life, and roots them as indigenous leaders in their communities. Since 2010, ULM has matured from a grassroots group of East Oakland youth into a city-wide mentoring movement. ULM nurtures leadership development through community and family engagement, social action, education supports, artistic expression, and holistic faith formation. In 2019, ULM secured space in the Lower Bottoms neighborhood of West Oakland to renovate and launch the new URBANLIFE Youth & Family Center to facilitate after school and summer arts and mentoring programs.

About Clorox What Comes Next Project

Clean is the beginning for so many – whether it’s a local laundry day, a natural disaster clean up, transforming a home or rehabilitating an animal shelter. What comes next is clean clothes for families in need. A bright and refreshed home for those who might have faced damage from a storm or are just getting back on their feet. Or the enjoyment of adopting a pet from a clean and healthy environment.

To continue their purpose initiative, Clorox announced the next phase of their Clean Transforms program — What Comes Next Project in 2018. Under this initiative, Clorox has partnered with organizations and individuals across the nation who are doing projects, big and small, in their communities that embody the transformative power of clean.
