Media Amplifies the Message
Thank you, Clorox and Sterling K. Brown, for helping to amplify the message that New York City must Bring Art Back to public schools. In the three weeks since we helped open the arts space at the Living Redemption Youth Opportunity Hub, media outlets have published at least 57 news reports and videos, including: ABC World News Tonight, E! News, Entertainment Tonight, People, Access Hollywood, Yahoo! News, A Plus, Good Day New York, WPIX 11, and so much more. Here’s a taste, from Forbes:
Clorox partnered with local non-profit Thrive Collective and more than 250 volunteers from the local community to clean and transform a former school into a youth arts center. Moving forward, the space will be Thrive Collective’s new headquarters and the home of arts and mentoring programs for at-risk youth in Harlem. The connection to the project was a no-brainer for Brown.
“As an actor, your imagination is everything,” he says. “And I can only imagine being in school where they said ‘no singing, no art, no performance for you.’ I would get something, but there would be so much that would be taken away from me. … I’ve had an opportunity to play some really wonderful roles, and now, I never underestimate the power of a story well told. Now it’s time to give back. Now it’s time to make sure that you can start creating opportunities for other people.”
